ATP Gstaad Open Day 3 predictions including Thiem vs Delbonis

Day 3 of the ATP Gstaad Open promises high-quality tennis, where the top seeds will be used. Casper Ruud starts his title defense while third-placed Roberto Bautista Agut also starts his campaign on Wednesday.

ATP Gstaad Open Day 3 Predictions

Juan Pablo Varillas vs. Roberto Bautista Agut

Head to head: first date

Roberto Bautista Agut had a good start to the year with a title triumph at the Doha 250 after leading Spain to the final of the ATP Cup. After an aborted clay court season, he reached the final of the Mallorca Open on grass. In short, it was the kind of year the ever-consistent Bautista Agut has every time, with the exception of the clay exploits. He will try to go deep in this draw. Juan Pablo Varillas caused an upset in his first round match against Lorenzo Sonego. This win will boost his confidence to some extent, but confidence can only go so far when your opponent is someone like Roberto Bautista Agut.
Prognosis: Bautista Agut in the 2nd

Casper Ruud versus Jiri Lehecka

Head to head: first date

The defending champions are starting their campaign and on the clay courts of Gstaad it’s hard not to see him go all out again this year. Ruud is a classic “master of a craft” from play on sand, if you like. He took what he does best and built on it. The result? He is ranked No. 5 in the world and already has eight ATP titles at the age of 23. He’s not here to fool around, he’s here for the trophy. On the other side of the net, Jiri Lehecka made short work of his first-round opponent. However, he is unlikely to cause any trouble for Ruud.
Prognosis: Ruud in the 2nd

Jaume Munar versus Alexander Ritschard

Head to head: first date

Alexander Ritschard put on a fine performance for his home crowd, defeating eighth-seeded Joao in straight sets to earn a second-round spot. As a wildcard entrant, he will try to make the most of this opportunity. Jaume Munar survived a scare in his first round match that lasted well over 2 hours. The next one might not be so hard for him.
Prediction: Munar in 2nd

Dominic Thiem versus Federico Delbonis

Head to head: Thiem 2 – 0 Delbonis

Dominic Thiem defeated the clever Frenchman Hugo Gaston in his first round match with extreme tenacity. The way he turned the match after losing the set 6-1 is the most remarkable but certainly not surprising thing to come from him. The score of the third set was “Thiem”. Mental stamina and determination sets him apart from his peers. Most tennis fans around the world will hope that this performance is not an isolated one and that Thiem will return to his old ways. On the other side of the net, Federico Delbonis defeated Mikael Ymer in straight sets. It was a good performance overall, but if Thiem is to do his best – well, very few can survive that.
Prognosis: Thiem in 2
