Emma Raducanu speaks on being in same draw as Serena Williams, Venus Williams

Emma Raducanu talks about being Venus Williams in the same draw as Serena Williams

2021 US Open winner Emma Raducanu says it is “amazing” to be in the same draw as Serena Williams and Venus Williams. Raducanu, 19, is taking part in the National Bank Open in Toronto this week. This week, the Williams sisters are taking part in the same draw for the first time since Wimbledon last year.

Raducanu, who is playing her first full season on the WTA Tour, admitted it’s absolutely impressive how long the Williams have been able to stay at the top. “It’s amazing to be in the same draw as them.

What they’ve done and how long they’ve been playing at such a high level and keep pushing back. You don’t have to play tennis and you love it,” Raducanu said, according to Lukas Weese.

Raducanu on reaching the quarterfinals in Washington

Last week, Raducanu started her summer on hard courts at the Citi Open in Washington.

There, Raducanu reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Liudmila Samsonova. Despite missing out on her first title of the year, Raducanu was still pleased with how her week in Washington went.

“It was a positive week getting three singles games. It’s just nice to see progress. Two weeks of training beforehand and to get a reward for it,” Raducanu mused.

Raducanu is considered one of the most promising and talented players on the WTA Tour.

The extremely talented young core is led by Iga Swiatek, who enjoyed a 37-game winning streak between February and July. In addition to Raducanu and Swiatek, 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez and this year’s French Open finalist Cori Gauff are also considered young players with the potential to do great things.

“I think it’s good to see so many of the younger players doing so well. You see some doing well, and then it drives you. It’s really good to have that competitiveness,” Raducanu said.
