WTA Granby day 2 predictions

This is a WTA tournament full of opportunities for young and unknown faces in the world of women’s tennis. You would expect one of the higher seeds to lift the trophy at the end of the week. That aside, however, all bets are off and we could well see teenagers ranked outside the world top 500 in the latter stages of this event. The headline of this set of WTA Granby Day 2 predictions is the #1 seed Daria Kasatkina. The Russian is the clear favorite for the title here but be sure to check it out our other prediction theorems to analyze some of their competitors. With that, let’s dive into the three games featured here.

WTA Granby day 2 predictions

Xiyu Wang vs. Jamie Loeb

Head to Head: 1-0 Wang

Some of the tournament’s best players will face opponents ranked well outside the top 200 in women’s football. This game is another example of that. Xiyu Wang is ranked No. 75 in the world and competes against Jamie Loeb who is ranked No. 259. The American was last in the top 150 in 2017/2018, so this game looks very one-sided on paper and I expect it will turn out that way. The couple met in Washington late last month. In that match, Wang lost only five games by an easy win. The rising Chinese star has too much power, a great serve and nothing but good ahead of him. In this case, expect an easy win for Wang.

Prognosis: Wang in Q2

Anna Bondar vs. Kayla Cross

Head to Head: First meeting

So, how do you argue for Kayla Cross when you’re 1150 rankings away from Anna Bondar? The answer is you don’t. Cross is currently ranked #27 in the world among juniors, so she’s not even an obvious star in the making. The young Canadian has little to no experience at this level and was presented with a bagel by Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the second set of her qualifier in Toronto two weeks ago. Bondar may not be a great hard court player, but she has more than enough tools and experience to prevail against Cross in this case. The Hungarian should win that easily.

Daria Kasatkina vs. Greet Minnen

Head to Head: First meeting

2022 seems to be the year for familiar faces to return to the top of women’s football. The likes of Caroline Garcia, Garbine Muguruza and Madison Keys are all enjoying fabulous years after bad times in 2020/2021. However, the queen of comebacks is most likely Kasatkina. The Russian is ranked 10th in the world, a position she last held in January 2019. She has won three WTA titles in the past 12 months and is looking good to make it to four in Granby this week. She faces a tricky opponent in the first round in Greet Minnen. The Belgian is consistent without being spectacular so there seems to be a permanent near top 100 position in play here. She doesn’t have the weapons to beat someone of Kasatkina’s quality. However, she will capitalize if the Russian is not in her game. But I can’t imagine that here.

Prediction: Kasatkina in 2
