Daria Kasatkina Rome

WTA Granby Day 3 predictions including Kasatkina vs. Frech

Granby, Canada is hosting a final US Open Lead-up event for the WTA Tour. There are some big names occupying this draw, but there’s also a great opportunity for some younger, lower-ranked players to make some noise. Day three in Granby will be filled with round of 16 matches including No. 1 seeded Daria Kastakina taking on Magdalena Frech. We at LWOT have the coverage of this game as well as all other happenings around the Granby grounds. But who is going ahead?

WTA Granby day 3 predictions

Anna Bondar vs Tatjana Maria

Head to Head: first meeting

The young Anna Bondar and the veteran Tatjana Maria compete against each other for the first time. Known for her clay-court skills, Bondar earlier this week notched up just her fifth tour-level hard-court win of the season. Maria, who had a dream run to the Wimbledon semifinals at the age of 34, has only been 2-4 since her time in London. Bondar is 1-4 in their last five games. Something has to give way in Granby. I’m giving a slight edge to the young Hungarian who might be more motivated to find some form ahead of the last slam of the season.
Forecast: Bonders in the 3rd

Harriet Dart vs Nuria Parrizas Diaz

Head to Head: Dart 1-0 Parrizas Diaz

Harriet Dart and number 5 Nuria Parrizas Diaz will face off for the second time despite it being almost eight years since they first met. Dart and Parrizas Diaz hold almost identical records this season, but darts have been a little more successful on hard courts. With that in mind, both could use a strong showing at Granby to build confidence ahead of the final Slam of the season. I expect this to be one of the best games of the day but give the Spaniard a slight advantage. She has shown slightly better form on hard court during the summer swing.
Forecast: Parrizas Diaz in 3

Katherine Sebov vs. Daria Saville

Head to Head: first meeting

#9 seeded Daria Saville takes on 23-year-old Canadian wildcard Katherine Sebov in round two. Saville reached the semifinals of the Citi Open earlier this month and holds an 18-9 record on hard this season. She should feel very safe against the wild card. World No. 307 Sebov claimed her first tour-level win of the season at Granby after beating top-ranked Xinyu Wang. Sebov has played all of her 46 matches this season on hard, so she should be comfortable in this one. With that in mind, I believe Saville’s experience and confidence will help see her across the finish line.
Forecast: Saville in the 3rd

Daria Kasatkina vs Magdalena Frech

Head-to-head: Kasatkina 1-0 Cheeky

No. 1 seed Daria Kasatkina will face Magdalena Frech in Round 2 in Granby. Kasatkina defeated Frech in a tough three-set match in 2019. These two are only seven months old but the Russian had a much better early career. Kasatkina, who came back from a loss in her round one match, is looking to get a few more matches under her belt after back-to-back first-round eliminations in Toronto and Cincinnati. Frech, on the other hand, was not in the main draw at either of these two events. I only see Frech away with a win if Kasatkina decides she had enough hard court practice ahead of the US Open. However, I don’t see this happening.
Forecast: Kasatkina in the 2nd
