IndyCar results and points after Laguna Seca: Willpower captured the second title of his career in the NTT IndyCar Seriesand 2021 series champion Alex Palou celebrated his first win of 2022 in the season finale of the Monterey Grand Prix on Sunday.

Power’s third place finish on Sunday was his ninth podium of the year and the season’s consistency put the Aussie 16 points ahead of Team Penske teammate Josef Newgard (who finished second after starting Sunday 25) in the championship.

Power, 41, started first after breaking Mario Andretti’s record with his 68th pole position of his career (and his fifth in 2022).

Power, who won his first title in 2014, won the 17th IndyCar Championship for Penske and was on the team’s list of multiple champions alongside Rick Mears, Tom Sneva, Al Unser, Gil de Ferran and Newgarden.

Palou, who had started from 11th due to an engine change in his number 10 Dallara-Honda due to a penalty of six places on the grid, won by 30.3812 seconds (beating the previous highest margin of the season by more than 24 24 seconds). His fourth career win capped off a turbulent season punctuated by a contract dispute with Chip Ganassi Racing (after the Spaniard signed with McLaren Racing).
