Rafael Nadal’s connection with Mexico will reach an important point next November when he plays an exhibition match at CDMX’s Monumental Plaza de Toros. Like the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer a few seasons ago, the Spaniard will now perform in the impressive arena of the Mexican capital.
The rival will be no more and no less than Norwegian Casper Ruud, whom he faced in the Roland Garros final a few months ago. In other words, Mexican fans can enjoy the show that two of today’s best tennis players can put on, more specifically world Nos. two and three.
The “Team8” company, which undertook an exhibition tour in 2019 with its representative Roger Federer and German Alexander Zverev, will try to repeat the formula with confirmed matches in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and now Mexico.
The date is yet to be announced, but the tour would begin in South America in late November, leaving the country’s capital as the fifth stop. Rafa Nadal has become the favorite player of Mexican fans. During his participation in the Acapulco Open, he has already managed to make David Ferrer the top winner of the best tennis tournament in Latin America four times.
It should be noted that the Mexican audience on the Federer-Zverev show, with 42,517 in attendance, set a new Guinness record for the most fans in a tennis match, which was broken months later by Federer and Nadal themselves on another show in South Africa.
Eala pays tribute to Nadal
2022 US Open girls singles champion Alexandra Eala recently revealed that Rafael Nadal is her idol and celebrated his fighting spirit. “Well, I think my idol is obviously Rafa. But I’m not just saying that because I’m in its structure (laughter).
No, he’s a very good role model, something a lot of people should idolize and try to be. I won a tournament in France a few years ago, maybe three years ago. The structure reached my parents. After a while and long discussions, we decided that I would be stationed there,” Eala said.
“The biggest thing I notice about Rafa is how he fights to the end, how his thoughts are so clear. He’s so calm but at the same time so enthusiastic. I think I’ve really tried to have that energy throughout this whole week I’ve also tried to show that, people who look up to me should think with a clear head and not act irrationally,” Eala added.
