Novak Djokovic Tel Aviv

ATP Astana day 3 predictions including Djokovic vs Garin

Day 3 of the ATP 500 level event Astana will bring some of the best players in the world to the courts of the capital of Kazakhstan. The first round matches will end on day three as we have a mix of first and second round competitions ahead of us. Out of his title in Tel Aviv, Novak Djokovic wants to defeat Cristian Garin for the third time in three meetings. We at LWOT also have the prediction for this game all other happenings around the site from Astana. But who is going ahead?

ATP Astana day 3 predictions

Marin Cilic versus Oscar Otte

Head to Head: first meeting

Marin Cilic and Oscar Otte will face off for the first time as both look to wrap up a strong 2022 season. Cilic experienced a certain revival this season. The 2014 US Open Champion holds a 31-18 record in 2022 with four semifinal appearances and a final appearance last week in Tel Aviv. His powerful serve + first ball makes him one of the best hard court players in the world. Oscar Otte, on the other hand, is wrapping up his first season in which he spent most of his time playing in tour-level tournaments. The 29-year-old German holds a 19-21 record this year but has struggled heavily of late. Otte has won just one of the seven matches he has played since Wimbledon. I have faith that Cilic and his current form will win this game.
Prediction: Cilic in 2

David Goffin vs. Adrian Mannarino

Head to Head: Goffin 5-2 Mannarino

Veterans David Goffin and Adrian Mannarino will face off for the eighth and second time this season, respectively. Mannarino prevailed over the Belgian 6-4, 6-2 in February but is still trailing 2-5 in the head-to-head aggregate. Goffin defeated No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 6-3 in round one. Alcaraz certainly wasn’t playing his best tennis, but this win is a testament to the level the former top tenner still possesses. Mannarino came back from a set to beat Stan Wawrinka to open his Astana campaign. Both players should be happy with their current form. Goffin is 51-34 in his career against lefties. Despite playing his first event in six weeks, he has proven his game hasn’t rusted. I like it when the Belgian carries his momentum from the first round into this match.
Prediction: Goffin in 3

Novak Djokovic vs Cristian Garin

Head to Head: Djokovic 2-0 Garin

Novak Djokovic claimed the title without dropping a set in Tel Aviv last week. He has won the title in three of the last four tournaments he has competed in. Chile’s Cristian Garin has the difficult task of knocking out a very in-form Novak. The 26-year-old is playing in his first event since being eliminated in the second round at the US Open. Known for his clay court skills, Garin only holds a tour record of 22-40 on hard courts. Djokovic has defeated Garin in straight sets in their two previous encounters. I don’t see how that shouldn’t be the case again in Astana. I feel that Djokovic has a bit of fire to return to his rightful place at the top of the world rankings and that perhaps holding the No. 4 overall seed in Astana does him no good.
Prognosis: Djokovic in 2
